Prevention cannot be neglected for anyone that wants to keep in top shape throughout their lives, making it possible to detect health risks early and to initiate the appropriate treatment should any problems arise. These tests show whether the thyroid gland is working properly; whether there are serious risks of diseases of affluence that affect the heart, blood vessels, and liver; or the presence of conditions specific to women.
If you are scheduled for blood collection, please keep in mind a few basic rules that will assure correct results. Starting at around 4 p.m. on the day before collection, you should limit the intake of certain foods such as alcohol, chocolate, and nuts and avoid demanding physical activity as both could distort the results. A light diet is recommended. It is advisable to drink a larger quantity of water or unsweetened tea (at least a quarter of a litre) before leaving home.
