Diabetes mellitus type 2 is a common disease of affluence. High blood sugar doesn’t hurt but can result in serious problems. This test is suitable for its detection and to check on treatment (for those older than 25 years of age).
If you are scheduled for blood collection, please keep in mind a few basic rules that will assure correct results. Starting at around 4 p.m. on the day before collection, you should limit the intake of certain foods such as alcohol, chocolate, and nuts and avoid demanding physical activity as both could distort the results. A light diet is recommended. It is advisable to drink a larger quantity of water or unsweetened tea (at least a quarter of a litre) before leaving home.
